Mpongwe’s People is a UK registered charity (no. 1123826) that partners with the Mpongwe Baptist Association (MBA) to serve the community and churches in the area. Find out more about the history here.
The market town of Mpongwe is fairly central to the copperbelt region of Zambia, so named due to the rich copper deposits found there.
The MBA extends approximately 100km in every direction from the headquarters in Mpongwe. Travel is often difficult as very few roads are tarred in this area, meaning that journey times to visit orphans are often over 6 hours.
The Kafue River winds through the Mpongwe district flowing through Kitwe in the North and then heading South to join the Zambezi River. Crossing points are few and far between, sometimes consisting only of a small pontoon with an outboard motor.
